Great coworkers, excellent training, great for people new to the city and want reliable work
Cons

Pros
As a newbie to coffee art and crafting great lattes that conjure up long lines, I've always felt a warm welcome by my coworkers and team lead. The more experienced baristas around you are always willing to take you under their wing and teach you how to create those beautiful rosettas. As a full-time Blue Bottle employee, you get free coffee, a 401K, and health insurance after the (3 or 6 month?) probation period. My team lead was always understanding and 00flexible with changing shifts, as long as another person was willing to switch shifts. Blue Bottle also strives for being eco-friendly and sustainability. Birthdays were always celebrated.
Cons
There's no cons that I could think of. It was a great job. I miss being a barista at Blue Bottle.

Former Employee, more than 1 year
Pros
I started working at Blue Bottle immediately after putting in my two weeks at Starbucks, and I can honestly say the difference was night and day. From the quality of coffee to the overall working environment, I felt much more valued and appreciated by customers and my coworkers at Blue Bottle. The benefits were nice, but not as good as Starbucks (I got full health insurance for working 20 hours a week at starbs but needed to work 32+ hours a week at Blue Bottle to get similar benefits). The company treated all of its employees well during the pandemic (full PTO from March- June 2020), and made a huge effort to make us feel comfortable through the constant changes and stresses from Covid. I learned so much and gained a huge appreciation for coffee while I was there. The tips were nice too.
Cons
It is pretty difficult, if not impossible, to work full time and have a flexible schedule. I was a little too ambitious trying to maintain 32+ hours a week while going to school part-time, AND work my freelance side hustle. I always ran into scheduling conflicts and needed to find coverage in an understaffed cafe. It was a nightmare. The pay rate was pretty low (only $14.50/hr in 2020 which is now closer to $16), but I believe baristas working in craft coffee should be making at least $17. It was also physically exhausting and extremely repetitive. Not the type of job you should be working for longer than 2 years.

Blue Bottle is a progressive, trendy and organized company and if an employee doesn't have a positive outlook and dynamic spirit by nature, it'll be challenging to work for this growing company.
